$2875 for Common Saints MS65s- NOW Boys & Girls

http://www.pcgs.com/prices/PriceGuid...+Gaudens+%2420

On the way from $5,000.00 to $25,000.00 (depending upon how dumb the White House is) each I'd bet YA! :36_1_34::36_1_34::yes:

Last time they hit $4,000.00 each with only ONE/FIFTH to ONE/TENTH the money supply.

Since OBAMA is not doing so good (in the smarts department) - I would expect it toward the $20 grand mark.

Already out of my reach.

Love to own one though.

However, I have a question.

HS, aren't you just a bit aprehensive about numismatics if things go down like many here believe they will?

I think owning a few numismatics are great for the portfolio if one already is diversified in bullion. Numismatics are a bit more speculative than bullion but can really appreciate in value rapidly at certain times like now. However, you need to be ready to sell them when the market is hot to reap a reward or wait a while... some times years during a downturn. It's hard for the goldbugs to let them go!!!:coolbeer:
The Saints in 65 have gone up by $1000.00 per coin in the past year alone!!!

I bought NGC's and PCGS 61 and 62 for under $700 in 2007 and they've doubled.

Numismatic gold, like most financial things in life, is just a big game of musical chairs. Don't be left standing when the music stops.

No they are only a small % of different types of holdings.

also - frankly the REALLY rich use them for INSULATION - as if you only pick
the ones following this formula you'll be OKAY.

Saints:

MS63 - buy at less than 100% premium on gold

MS64 - buy at less than 150% premium on gold

MS65 - buy at less than 300% premium on gold

Math works like this now:

so 939 X 200% = $1878 (prices are north of that)

so 939 X 250% = $2347 (prices are topping out)

so 939 X 300% = $2817 (prices are topping out)

I think that GOLD going to BUMP up to $1250 to $1500 rather shortly because OBAMA is failing (thank GOD) to secure his socialist worldview.

Many want a portable way to hold MUCH!

Hope that helps.

VEHICLES:

BULLION coins
gold
silver
platinum

Bullion big
silver

Rare and numismatics
gold
silver
platinum

IRAs
gold

stocks
gold majors
silver majors

When all the 3 to 6 trillion of OBAMA dollars hits the metals will SCREAM! Perhaps ten to twenty times as the OBAMA dollars is like FUEL to the fire.

I belive numismatics serve a needed purpose.
People of money need a place to store wealth they can hold, and to preserve the future prosperity of their families.
What else can you own other then gemstones, that represents wealth and value in a documented item, that is unique, has a book value, and in such a small package?
There may be times these coins fluxuate in price, but they will never go to zero, like paper wealth can.

I agree, read their site who these people are.
World renown in grading the finest specimens of the rarest coins in the world.
Watch the video. http://www.pcgs.com/submission.html

David Hall
President, Collectors Universe

Expertise: All U.S. coins.
Specialties: Top quality U.S. type coins, gold, silver dollars, commemoratives, and early 20th century coins.

In the 1980's he was the man behind the major market innovations of the decade; guaranteed buy/sell markets, electronic trading, and his piece de resistance, the Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS). In 1990 David Hall was named Orange County "Entrepreneur Of The Year" by Inc. Magazine. The February 20, 1996 issue of Numismatic News called him "the man who changed the rare coin market forever." The July, 1999 issue of Coinage Magazine named David Hall one of the top "Numismatists of the Century."

John Dannreuther
Founder, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS)

Expertise: All U.S. coins.
Specialties: U.S. gold and type coins, counterfeit detection, and special strikings.

After graduating from the University of Mississippi with a degree in chemistry, John went back into the coin business, becoming a full-time dealer in 1973. Today he is considered one of the top rare coin experts of all time.

Miles Standish
Senior Grader and Vice-President of Business Development, Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS)

He served as Vice President of PSA; authenticating Mark McGwire's 70th homerun ball and Hank Aaron's 714th bat and ball.

Miles' programs have substantially increased the number of graded coins in the marketplace. He provides strategic advice to coin dealers, insight to serious collectors; collaborates with publishers, mentors young hobbyists, presents expert testimony at trial and introduces successful coin packaging programs for a variety of modern coins.

He spearheaded the development of limited edition commemorative coin and autograph holders for former Presidents Bush and Ford, Lance Armstrong, General Tommy Franks, Kathy Sullivan, Jessica Lynch and former U.S. Mint Directors Donna Pope, Jay W. The numismatic premiums on Saints and other gold coins will be drastically reevaluated when gold is $10,000+

I was in CNI a couple years ago when this guy and a frind walk in with a $100,000 worth of nice saints that CNI had put him into. He had only kept them a few months and was mad as hell that they didn't perfom like he had hoped. He gave the guys a rash of shit and wanted them all sold right then.
I said to him, I think you are making a mistake and that this market in gold is just getting started. He didn't care and said he'd rather be in the stock market.
The guys at CNI fanned out the 100 G's cash, and he and his friend left in a huff. Me and the guys just shook our heads.
I bet he'd be sorry today, if he only knew. Jerk!

I agree. The thing with pre 1933 gold coins is that there is a limited supply, no matter how much gold you have you just can not create more of these historical coins.

Numismatic premiums are totally dependent upon rich men having disposable income to pay such premiums. Not a "bit more speculative" - A LOT more.

Really, in this time and place, it's pure gambling - just like the stock market. Only with a numismatic at least you have a floor of the intrinsic metal value.

Yeah, the premiums will remain the same or drop, possibly by 90%.

In other words, a 1 ounce numismatic today is $3500, and in 2012, it's $11250...only because Gold is then $10,000/ounce.

I paid $409 (shipping included) for a PCGS MS61 1893 $10 Liberty Head less than two years ago on fleabay. MS 60 is at $775 and MS 62 is at $835 right now. While this is a nice appreciation in dollar terms, it's the last coin I'd part with. I typically don't buy numis coins. I bought this one because I wanted to own a little piece of our nation's history that I could pass down. I'd be hard pressed to part with it.

NGC is totally independent and does not participate in the market, they will also not grade coins which have been cleaned. harder to get good grades too so you are right. not so such why everyone thinks pcgs is so good.

Both NGC & PCGS are fine to have in your collection. If you stick with common dates you will be OKAY in this run up. Coins are like chocolates they can be adicting.

Today the US Mint allowed me to receive my ONE UHR double Eagle 2009. It was beautifully packaged with the case the wood the packaging etc.

The coin was beautiful too. Really well done and quite something to hold in the enclosed plastic case. Under 10X power it looked fine; at least a MS69 possible MS70.

Now I have many, many, 1907-1928 Saints all the way from a AU55 in 1909/8 to many MS65s. Mostly PCGS; rest NGC slabbed.

I have held the raw ones and I would love to have bought the 1907 HD - but the price did not match the rariity factor for me mathmatically. I do my own thing on this. Few years ago I
picked up a 1922 MS65 Saint for twice the value of gold. Now it's a tad higher some 7 times. I also collect the Liberties in $10 and $20 factors from 1850 onward.

All that said - I really appreciate the BIGGER BIGGER BIGGER old Saints. The reason is that the NEW 2009 one looks like my Liberties and my Indians in $10 gold size. I wish I could have bought MORE examples of the 2009 however. I'll probably grab at least a few more.

I can see why the SAINTS jumped up in price once the public started to see the 2009 - they wanted the real thing in history - and IT'S BIGGER LOOKING.

My 3 cents worth 2 cents,

HS

I could kick myself for not picking up one a few years back for close to spot prices. I always thought these coins were as common as dirt and were made into the millions thus they would never be worth much.

Do you have mintages and PCGS/NGC slabbed numbers for these coins?

Yes BOTH NGC & PCGS numbers - however many have been sent in way MORE than ONCE. That said - if you want to PICK up a COMMON DATE SAINT
I would highly recommend the 1926 Saint Gaudens $20 because

one I can't find too many for sale

two in MS66 they bring a HIGHER premium

three they are a steal for the NUMBERS encapsalated compared to the rest BUY all in MS65

also take a LONG second look at the second coin = 1923 "D" for they are also a tad smaller in NUMBERS certified. And the premium is the same as the 1927 1925 1924 (don't buy extra too many) and then third coin = 1928 just doesn't have a LOT out there EITHER but the 1926 is a steal.

I did this same similar TYPE thing for the 1922 Saint two years ago around $1700 - now it's around $5700.

try gainesville coins. com

Happy hunting I've done 100 hours of research on these for fun - not boring like the bullion coins - :signs14::wink::yes::111:

I have THREE Saints CHART books - one rather new 9-2008 - from CDN Graysheet Bids.

NOTE : super BIGGIE = the old common date TOP was a triple hit 1986 -1988 - 1989 when the US money supply was about (who really knows for sure with these printing jerks, right?) 3400 3800 and 4000 BILLIONS compared to today's (guesstimated from Shaddowstats and common sense; what little is left, right?) about 15,000 almost four times the money supply.

This ain't rocket science.

Five rules of investing per Zapapta George :9536:

1- Human nature never changes
2- so study histoy
3- oil still runs the world
4- only real money are gold and silver
5- fundamentals will rule out

THe OLD triple hit PRICE was $3,800 $3,500 $3,500

(boy, does that rhyme with me when I dumped ALL my stocks in March - 2001 - then the later bump up too.)

Conservative in me calls for near TEN GRAND in the next few years.

Re: $2875 for Common Saints MS65s- NOW Boys & Girls

Tid BIT from CHINA:

The stampede in the making
Investors will begin to stampede out of financial assets such as Treasuries and into hard assets like precious metals and certain commodities whose price has been severely beaten down. These will offer comparatively much safer stores of wealth, ones with a real profit potential. China, via its resource buys, is already blazing the trail, going energetically into hard assets, rather than sustaining its 2008 rate of purchases of Treasuries and other financial assets.

Replay the recent histories of the chaotic housing and the commodities bubble bursts. Global investors, at the behest of enthusiastic governments, largely ignored the inevitable risks and piled into these assets on a grand scale, with the hottest interest coming just before the burst occurred. The environment of very low global interest rates and a massive global credit excess set the stage for enormous investor profits on these gigantic and mushrooming asset bubbles.

It's not about timing - sadly - I feel that the PMs are a slow sell because TPTB have threatened the VERY fiber of their fiat system. I've studied 450 Fiat failures (3 in America!) and #4 is coming soon.

Sadly. :signs14:

Hi HS I am looking at buying a few common dated saints from gainesville (thanks for posting that site on GIM, they seem like a great company with decent prices for international shipping).

Do you have any advice on the dates to get for a newbie first time buying numis. They have a spread of common dates of their choice. Should buy just random dates of their choice or go and spec exactly which date I want even tho the price might be a little dearer. 1926 Saint Gaudens? 1923 "D"?

For random dates:
MS63 $1,660.00
MS64 $1,810.00
MS65 $2,250.00

What do you think about these prices?

Thanks for your knowledge and info.

MS65 $2,250.00

What do you think about these prices?

Thanks for your knowledge and info.

If you stick with ANY combo of the above and add

1907 (cheap now at $1600 retail)
1908 no motto
1911D
1914D
1914S
1915S
1916S
1920
1922
1923
1923D
1924
1925
1926
1927
1928

you are on the way to building a swell set (remember MS63 upward according to your available funds - Rome was not BUILT in a DAY - but as the scribe said, "Brick by brick, my son.")

Boy, would that make a pretty sight all lined up.

P.S. once you get the first one and are holding HISTORY in your hands - dang - you'll be adicted. Print out the PCGS retail price chart and YELLOW highlight them as you obtain them. That's FUN.

Also buying the above to start is a "can't go wrong" method. Once you leave these you have to really research what you are doing. Frankly, I think that (between you and me) the new UHR Eagle is causing the SAINTS attention just like the 50 quarters caused a BOOM in coin collecting. The reason is that one can BUY the UHR Eagle and have a similar coin to the ORIGINAL TR/St.Gaudens masterpiece since the early Greek coins. Plus frankly #2 the rich are starting to FLEE paper ALA 1976-1981. Read the Chinese article on a different thread. Also #3 even my 85 year old aunt called to ask which (she INSISTED they be SAINTS) encapsulated she should buy. The last times I saw her was at her 10,000 sq. foot CABIN on the Brule River in Wis. - six bedrooms upstairs with each a private bath - and ten kigsize hanging BEDS on the wrap around porch. The caretaker with his separate #BR 2B ajacent home said, "this place is better than the one Pres. Collidge and Pres. Hoover stayed at across the river." Interesting.

Polish each one with AMORAL too! Get a gray PLASTIC NGC box cheap.
Best wishes and GOD SPEED!

Re: $2875 for Common Saints MS65s- NOW Boys & Girls

So your saying my dad did alright with his gold portfolio. He got more than a few MS64 Saints, all NO MOTTO. I was thinking he should unload and get twice the gold but he has had them 10 years and they were cheap compared to even "spot" today. Is there any signs you can think of that would signal a peak and is there any source we should be watching to see these signs? They are beautiful coins but being a gold prospector I would still rather look at a bigger pile of AU. Thanks for the topic. HH Mark

You will see a marked SPIKE from the current RETAIL of around $2900 to at least $8000 up to who knows maybe $10,000 to $20,000 or GOSH forbid way higher.

DEPENDING upon the M3 Obama Dollars and the price of those dollars on the international stage. If those Obama Dollars hit from current 15,000 billion (give or take 2 or 3 trillion) to say 30,000 or maybe 45,000 billion well then MULTIBLES and JUMP in prices occurs. In the past in France 1796 and Germany 1923 those MULTIBLES hit 260 to 380 TIMES! People that invested in the paper currencies were wiped out.

Imagine having say 3 million now in US dollars and next month they are worth in buying power $8,333.00 - this happened in both France & Germany.

So govt. folks have a terrible history of honesty. In our OWN Civil War a $20 gold piece brought $280.00 in LINCOLN GREENBACKS in 1863.

Cheers for the info HS!

I'm going to get started with that yellow highlighter pretty soon.

You think for a newbie getting all saints is a good idea? I would love to try and get all the dates lined up at ms-64, well except some of the 1933, 1932 ones.

I was talking to a few dealers, Van Simmons was one of them and they seem to think that diversifying into something like $10 Indians, $5 Indians or even $20 Liberties would be a good idea. I was even checking out those dollar gold pieces. $10, $5 are getting up there in value.

Only thing was that once you start getting into those the gold content to price ratio seems to drops significantly. Guess most of them trade for rarity value as opposed to gold. Are you collecting those aswell?

Oh BTW your aunts place sounds sweet! Hopefully one day we can trade a few $20 saints for one of those :biggrin:.

You just can not beat the limited supply of pre-1933 coins. Plenty of gold bars/coins to buy, all the gold ever mined is pretty much all still here. But no matter how much gold you have you can not produce anymore of these historical coins.
